Rabbit Awareness Week (RAW) is an important week for rabbits. Over the past 11 years RAW have made it the biggest and best campaign about rabbit care and welfare in the UK!

During RAW week, St Boniface Vets will join thousands of vets and practices across the UK to offer free health clinics, with a nurse, for local rabbits and their owners.

So it doesn't matter if your rabbits have never been to the vet before, it's the perfect opportunity to get them health checked by the experts.

Together we aim to improve the lives of the UK's rabbits and stop them getting a RAW deal!

Recent research into calf rearing has shown that optimising heifer growth rates pre-weaning is vital for efficient heifer rearing and producing a healthy, high yielding dairy cow.

Keeping a record of colostrum management, growth rates, calf illness and calf mortality is therefore essential.  The XLVets Calf Tracker initiative has been designed as a monitoring system, which allows recording and bench marking of calf performance from birth to weaning within the practice, but also nationwide.

If you are looking to tackle a problem, or are looking to improve your calf rearing; in order to achieve the highest quality heifers, then Calf Tracker provides an excellent place to start.

Come along to our Calf Tracker Workshop on 22nd March at 7pm.

This will be an ideal time to hear more about the Calf Tracker Initiative in more detail.

You could even have the chance of winning a Free Calf Tracker Kit, which includes a Calf Jacket.

Did you know that every year, our dogs and cats age 7 times faster than we do? By the age of 7 (dogs) and 8 (cats), our pets are considered to be senior, or geriatric.

During February and March 2017 we are running a BeActive Senior Pet Wellness Campaign. We will be offering:

FREE health check-ups for senior pets as well as discounts on any in-house follow up blood tests,
urine tests or dental treatment.

During the health check, one of our vets will perform a full clinical examination on your pet, and may offer further tests, to pick up on any undiagnosed problems that your dog or cat may have.  Catching these age-related diseases early is the best way to ensure a long happy life.

How much are you spending on antibiotics?

I'm sure you've all seen the media stories on the threat of antibiotic resistance; many of them blaming the use of antibiotics in livestock for the problem.

Whatever the breakdown of risk from human and animal use, all sectors need to be tackling this problem.

But what exactly can you as beef farmers do, and how good

or bad is your antibiotic use currently?

Rachel and Ruth are holding an evening meeting at

St Boniface Vets on 24th January

7pm

They will benchmark antibiotic spend and use of critically important antibiotics across our beef clients.

Come along to find out how you are doing, and

how the changes will affect you.

So we can compare different enterprises please let us know:-

1) Number of suckler cows

2) Number of calves

3) Number of other cattle on farm
