A more unusual patient visited the practice recently...

Buzzby was brought in by a very kind and thoughtful member of the public who saw a car in front knock the buzzard over.

The buzzard was knocked into a puddle and presented to Kate in respiratory distress, soaking wet and cold.  On admit he wasn't moving, and open mouth breathing. 

After a very hands off approach, to begin with; to include warming and supplemental oxygen Kate was able to examine him. He was in good body condition and appeared to be a fledgeling.  His vital parameters were all within normal limits but he was unable to perch and kept wobbling over. 

Kate radiographed him and no broken bones were apparent - which was a miracle!!!  

After administration of pain relief, antibiotics and a broad spectrum wormer he was left to recover.  On examination the next day he appeared to have made a fantastic recovery and was able to perch and move about. Kate also checked his eyes to ensure he could see - often when buzzards have head trauma they loose  their sight; which would obviously complicate his ability to be released back into the wild. 

He was then moved to a rehabilitation unit for further monitoring and as far as we are aware he has gone from strength to strength.
