BVD Free Cattle Buying

Monday, 9 June 2014 - 7:52pm

As many of you will know England is lagging behind the rest of Europe including Scotland and Ireland in eradicating/controlling BVD. The BVD free campaign is an industry wide campaign to reduce the level of BVD in the English cattle herd.

Since BVD can cause:

  • Increased calf scour
  • Increased pneumonia
  • Ill thrift

It's impact for anyone rearing calves or stores can be very significant.

Although it may seem that you have no control over buying in BVD infected calves that's not the case.

See whether you already have a problem:
Blood sample 5 young stock from each management group over 9 months old - we believe the impact of BVD is so important that we will do this at your next TB test unless you decide against it.

If bloods are taken at a TB test cost is only £27 for 5 samples.

Avoid buying in a problem in the future:
Talk to us about Check Tags which show an animal has been tested or testing via ear tagging as calves arrive on farm.
