FREE evening meeting at St Boniface Vets on Wednesday 17th June at 7.30pm.
The meeting is to update you, as a farrier, on the nation-wide XL Equine campaign ‘Keep One Step Ahead’. This collaborative campaign has been developed by the independent veterinary group XL Equine (of which St Boniface is a member) and World Horse Welfare.
Please feel free to come along even if none of your clients use St Boniface Vets, this meeting is open to all and any farriers including apprentices!
We all know that although vets, farriers and horse owners each have a significant role in hoof healthcare, by working together this becomes much stronger. The aim of the campaign is to encourage close collaboration between vets and farriers to ensure that the horses and ponies under their care continue to receive the very best of treatment.
As a farrier you are uniquely placed to offer advice to horse owners and provide a link between the owner and vet. As such the meeting will focus on:
- Cushings and EMS in horses and ponies
- Radiography of the Equine Foot
Cushings and EMS are two extremely common metabolic conditions and they can occur concurrently. With both farriers and vets educating owners this will help to deliver the best care possible to the horses affected.
Radiography is often an essential part of getting a lame horse back sound and working, and farrier input and collaboration will be an essential part of the ‘foot team’.
I really hope that you will be able to come along! Please contact the practice on 01363 772860 or email: equine@stbonifacevets.co.uk to let me know if you can make it.
Hoping to see you soon,
Anna Jesse MA VetMB MRCVS and Clare Smith BVSc MRCVS
